Chirag Gupta graduated with a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from the School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai, and is enrolled with the Bar Council of India.
He counsels clients on finance, joint ventures, debt restructuring, commercial leasing, and real estate redevelopment. Additionally, he liaises with various government and regulatory authorities, handling RERA registration, compliance, and dispute resolution. He specializes in drafting contracts related to real estate transactions, including construction and engineering contracts, conveyance deeds, sale/lease agreements, build-to-suit agreements, leave and license agreements, and mortgage and hypothecation documents.
Mr. Gupta provides critical advice on matters pertaining to the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT), business establishment in India and overseas, insolvency, restructuring, and general corporate and insolvency law advisory. He represents clients before various authorities, including the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Registrar of Companies (ROC), Recovery Directorate (RD), and Company Law Board (CLB). He has advised and assisted numerous companies, including start-ups in the manufacturing and service sectors and non-profit organizations.
His expertise in the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) is extensive, covering legal opinions, advisory services, voluntary liquidation processes, due diligence for resolution applicants, and submission of resolution plans. He has a strong track record of appearing before the NCLT across India and handling appellate proceedings in insolvency cases.
He is also deeply involved in dispute resolution, with a focus on shareholders’ disputes, arbitration proceedings, and cases involving oppression and mismanagement, ensuring his clients receive effective legal remedies. He has significant litigation experience in civil and company jurisdictions of the Madras High Court and has worked alongside senior counsels practicing there. His practice areas include industrial disputes, service matters, arbitration, company law, and civil litigation. He has represented clients in various courts across Chennai, including the City Civil Court, Labour Courts, Mofussil Courts, Tribunals, and quasi-judicial authorities.
Additionally, he has hands-on experience in drafting a wide range of transaction documents and has successfully interpreted and defended contractual clauses in courts and arbitral tribunals. His expertise extends to debt recovery laws (SARFAESI Act), and he has first-hand experience defending clients in debt recovery forums.
